Interview: Adam Katz Sinding | Le 21ème

Iv'e met Adam in the crowded streets of Milan during one of my visits to Milan fashion week .

I didn't know much about him at the time, but saw that whoever passes by him freezes for a moment – I asked for his name and then I understood why , I kept following maybe he might spot me.

But as is was fashion week and there were so many photographers on the streets as it seemed that in a moment he disappeared , though that moment followed me forever!

Last year when I managed the international media of Tel Aviv's fashion week I had no doubt that one of the people I would most like to see here is him.

And so Iv'e contacted him buy the dates weren't right, though when Vibe Israel miwanted recommendations for this year his name popped up with no doubt!

Before Adam arrived in Israel I asked him to take a few minutes to answer a few questions.

I was so excited he arrived in Israel!

1.Do you remember the first time you have held a camera and started to take photos? What got you started?

Well maybe not the first time, but I do remember the first time I  took a photo which I remember.  I was maybe 13 years old, and I took a black and white photography course at a local school over the summer.  As far as what started my "career" I have no clear idea.  Only that I liked to take photos and it was fun enough to keep my interest.

2.Can you tell us about your connection to the fashion world, when and why have you decided to focus on street style?

I have little or no connection to the fashion world, and I prefer it this way.  I prefer to stay on the periphery and watch it all happen from a passive position.  I mean, my mother is a designer, and I do love fashion as a consumer, but I do not consider myself to be "part of the industry" that's for sure.

3.Have you always focused on the fashion world or have you tried taking phots in different categories as well?

there are many  But likely this one is one of my favourites !

5.Which photo have you taken that will always be remembered as an unforgettable moment?

Same as above.  But there are many…too many to count.  I have a connection with almost every photo I take…as I was there, so it stimulates so much for me.

6.Regarding trends how do you see the difference in street style since your early days and now?

No clue.  I dont care about trends.  I'm just happy everyone isn't wearing that stupid Kenzo jumper with the tiger on it anymore…or that Balenciaga neoprene jumper.

7.When you take street style photos are you mostly inspired by the cloths or by the person wearing them?

The person.  Absolutely.  the clothes are only complimentary to the composition.

8.Some say fashion bloggers inspire street style, what's your opinion?

For me this is less and less true each season.  I feel that most bloggers actually are destroying the authenticity of street style as they are given outfits to wear by the brands.  That being said, there are certain bloggers whom really do inspire me, and who I will run for for ages just to get a shot.

9.As you are attending Tel Aviv's Fashion Week, are you already familiar with any Israeli designers?

Not at all.  I am here as a blank slate.  Very excited to get to know the Israeli industry.

10.How do you imagine the street style in Israel?

Again, no clue.  I like to be ignorant when I go somewhere new, in order to keep an open mind.

11.After taking over Tel-Aviv (all Israel is already following you on Instagram) where are headed next?

Ha!  After this I head to Moscow, St Petersburg, Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Guatemala City, etc.

Founder and Art Director

My name is Michal Portman. I am 30 years old living in Holon, right outside of Tel Aviv. I love, live & breath fashion from childhood. I was born in Kiev, Ukraine to a fashionable mamma which started it all! Growing up I adored “Sex in the city” (am nicknamed Michal Bradshaw because I remind my friends of Carrie in my fashion taste and personality) just for the sake of fashion – that was the real story… my inspiration! Then I realized there’s no other way but starting my own blog – Matryoshka – where I started writing about fashion and lifestyle for women who love life and themselves. Matryoshka? That’s the famous Russian doll – each doll represents a different aspect of my personality and fashion sense. My blog is about new fashion trends, combining pieces from the flea market and brand names, self-nurturing and the good life… Due to my blog and its contents, I receive many invitations to launch parties and try not to miss any! On top of that, I have a degree in behavioral science, majoring in human resource management which definitely helped me in personal communication with others. All of the above are just the basis of my willingness to fit in to the fashion scene but most importantly is my love of fashion, the way I express it and the collaboration with people who put it all together in a magical way.
